Ha ha ha! I chuckle with glee, after renting this from Netflix I had to buy it lickity split. A horror movie with a bowling theme. Writer-director Ryan Nicholson first caught my attention a year or so ago with his hyper violent ‘torture porn’ gorefest entry “Live Feed” ‘06. So I thought I’d give his second feature a shot and glad I did. A riot of bad taste in the tradition of 80’s greats “Gutterballs” blazes a nasty foul mouthed over-the-top trail of brutal violence. misogynistic rape, gratuitous nudity & sex and gore galore while being filled with often hilarious dark comedy. Sick, twisted and properly pornographic this has all the makings of a low budget cult classic that if rated would surley get an X.

The festivities all take place in a bowling alley where a motley bunch makes up two rival teams that bowl after hours and are kicked out for fighting. But one of the girls goes back in to get something and is brutally gang raped by Steve and his cronies in a scene that mirror’s the Jodie Foster pinball machine rape in “The Accused” only going much further.

The next night Steve who had his foot broken with a bowling ball in the previous night’s fight and ends up in a cast, is funny as hell as he hobbles around bitching and complaining non stop while saying fuck more than those sleazoids in “August Underground Mordum” ‘06. Yes the gang is back for another night of beer drinking and bowling while a killer in a bowling ball bag for a mask is violently killing them off one by one in a number of vile ways. The 69 sex suffocation scene is a first for sure. There’s also a blood showering throat slashing that is definately a salute to Lucio Fulci among the many very gory kills with excellent 80’s style f/x. None of that CGI bull shit here.

Imagine a little “I Spit on Your Grave” ‘78 meets “Street Trash” ‘87 with a dose of “Intruder” ‘89, while being politically incorrect, full of rude crude comedy and dialogue like: “Don’t write a check your ass can’t cash” and “You lucky the buffalo beat me over the fence or I’d be your daddy” or “What the fuck? Where the fuck is your head?” and “Can you get this boy a band aid he has one hellava fucking boo boo” as this comes to a chaotic bloodbath of a ending. Sensitive viewers are sure to find down right offensive. For Deathmetal fans Director Ryan Nicholson also directed the “Necrophagia – Nightmare Scenarios DVD” and I look forward to his recently completed next feature “Hanger” which concerns a back alley abortion. I think I can kind of see where that one is going.

Danger After Dark DVD has a great picture in Anamorphic 1.78:1 Widescreen with 5.1 Dolby Digital Sound.
Xtras include Director’s Commentary, Behind the Balls: The Making of Gutterballs, Teaser Trailer and Still Gallery
